ABC DNA THE PATH: connect, grow, serve, and GO
Psalm 16:11, Romans 9:1-3

INTRODUCTION:
DNA is the code of life that defines who you are—and the church, ABC, has one too. Our DNA describes the CENTER of who we are as a church.

REMEMBER: the church began in the heart of God and exists for the glory of God. God began His church to manifest His glory to the whole world.

Over the course of this series, we will be looking at God’s plan for the church, why ABC exists, what we believe, details of our DNA and lately, we have been answering the question of how we are going to get there, and the answer is because of our PATH: connect, grow, serve and GO.

This is how we are going to finish everything up by looking at the final step and that is to GO. Now I don’t mean for you to leave ABC but I do mean that we are mobilized for mission. When we leave from this place, we are to GO and actually DO the work.

BIG IDEA: We are mobilized for mission and the mission is people! Moving them from where they are to where God wants them to be.

Alan Redpath: “We are sent out to be exceptional in ordinary things, among sometimes mean people, in frequently sordid surroundings. Only the man sent by the King of Kings could take that, and only a man with a true burden will ever accept it.”

I think we have exhausted, at least for this sermon series, the truth that God expects us to GO and DO the work which is to love people and win them to Jesus. However, what will sustain you to GO and DO? The answer is found in our text.
In this verse we find the sustaining drive that propelled the Apostle Paul to continually GO and DO. We find the secret was his deep BURDEN. As he opens his heart to the people of Rome, we find this incredible statement, Romans 9:3, “For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh.” Did you get that?

What Paul is saying that if it were possible to give up HIS OWN salvation for the Jewish people to be saved, he would do it. This is such a POWERFUL burden to have! This is the kind of burden we must have to continually, day after day, GO and DO the work that God has called us to. To go , like Redpath said, “among sometimes mean people, in frequently sordid surroundings.

Let us notice the attributes of a God given burden.

BODY:
1. A PURE BURDEN vs. 1-2
Note: I love how Paul wants them to know that he is NOT grandstanding here. He is bearing his heart!
A. Sincere—a true burden for the souls of men

B. Struggle—to see their daily rejection

C. Sorrow—to consider their eternity

2. A PRAYERFUL BURDEN vs. 2-3, Luke 10:2
Note: I think Paul followed the Jesus model of prayer and spend A LOT of time doing it. I hope you do as well because Prayer changes things and prayer comforts our own hearts. In vs. 3 it mentions the word “wish” is a verb and it means prayer to God. What did he pray for concerning his burden?
A. Pray for the Souls of Men to be Saved

B. Pray for the Surrender of Men to be Sent Luke 10:2

C. Pray for the Sanctification of Men to be Servants

3. A PERSONAL BURDEN vs. 3, Acts 1:8
Note: The personal pronouns are very important to me in this verse. It was what drew me to it. When we talk about a burden, it must become personal to YOU! Who are you responsible for?
A. Your Jerusalem—home/people JUST like you/Lafayette

B. Your Judea—friends and acquaintances/people similar to you/Louisiana

C. Your Samaria—co-workers and common area people/people different than you/the United States

D. Your Uttermost Parts of the Earth—strangers/people NOTHING like you/the world

NEXT STEPS:
• Make Going and Doing PERSONAL

• Be faithful in every opportunity that God gives you

• Never speak with anyone without saying a word of praise about ABC

CONCLUSION:
I believe that God is doing something great in our church! I believe that God is GOING to do something GREATER than we can even imagine right now. Are you on board?

Remember, it is God’s Will for every life for a person to be SAVED, SCRIPTUALLY baptized and to JOIN His Church…where are you along that journey?
